Montage Live

A local staffing agency expects my friend with advanced keratoconus to be able to use this for her job interview:

Montage Live by Montage Talent, Inc.
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/montage-live/id1036399811?mt=8

She’s not going to be able to make eye contact if she has to keep holding the phone up to her eyeball to see the buttons!

a) imho that's a ridiculous request.
b) What's wrong with a standard videoconference provider? Gotomeeting? BlueJeans?

Methinks the staffing agency is thinking too narrowly (as are the providers of the app.... "Here... conduct an interview via video! Look at this new bright shiny thing!" except it's no longer new at all....)

Never used this app before, so I don't know if this would work. But if she is a VoiceOver user she might try the image-description feature on the phone. I'm still rather new to mine and haven't really used this feature, but VoiceOver is usually very good with images now. Which iPhone is she using? Also is this a free app by chance? I currently have very little remaining on my iTunes gift card, at least the one and only card we could find. But reading this has me curious.

So owning an iPhone is now a job requirement? Yuck. (Long-time android user here.)

There's an Android version available. I looked in the Google Play store.

What's interesting is the list of user permissions:

This app has access to:
Photos/Media/Files
read the contents of your USB storage
modify or delete the contents of your USB storage

Storage
read the contents of your USB storage
modify or delete the contents of your USB storage

Camera
take pictures and videos

Microphone
record audio

Wi-Fi connection information
view Wi-Fi connections

Other
view network connections
full network access
prevent device from sleeping

In particular, the ability to read arbitrary files on your phone's storage, and full network access, are worrisome. And why does it need to view wifi connections?

One other suggestion here: http://www.seeingai.com . This is a rather new app from Microsoft, but it's also free. I recently downloaded it and although I've had some positioning issues, the app seems to work incredibly well. I even wrote about it over at my journal.

So in addition to the accessibility issue, if she isn't an Apple user she can't apply for a job? That's warped.

There's an android version--see my reply to mdlbear, above.

That's slightly less bad but still rather creepy.

Creepy, hell yeah.
