Volume is not pitch

I finally got around to updating my Android phone's operating system. It's been bugging me about it for a couple of weeks.

When I click the button to turn the volume up and down, there's a test tone to demonstrate the volume, which is nice. But since the update, the pitch of the test tone changes along with the volume. Higher volume makes a higher-pitched and louder bing; lower volume makes a lower-pitched and quieter bing. Before the update, the bing would be the same pitch and would only change volume.

It strikes me as being unnecessarily confusing for anyone who has more trouble hearing some pitches than others, as I understand is often an issue with mild hearing loss.

Not just with mild hearing loss, I have a moderate-severe hearing loss and some pitches are pretty much a dead loss, others are painful even at low volume. I have to find that elusive combination of pitch and volume which I can hear when it's trying to alert me to something but it does not feel like an arrow in the head if it catches me at a pitch where I have serious recruitment. If it makes a loud sound into my hearing aid the combined output is going to be somewhat louder than a jet engine. Pitch REALLY matters. Just ask my husband who came staggering in with severe ear pain when I was innocently clicking on buttons which "didn't do anything" on a frequency curve chart. Apparently they produced a screaming tone. Who knew?

Sounds like a bug, rather than an intentional change. Have you tried reporting it?
