Push buttons are problematic in themselves, especially if they're faffy little buttons. If motion activated sensors are now cheap enough and simple enough that they can be put into supermarket-sold air freshener doohickeys that cost $12, there's no reason why any control anywhere for an "automatic" door (it's not automatic if you push a button!) or anything relating to access needs to have a push button.
