Disenfranchisement for blind voters in the UK

As most of you are probably aware, it's election day in the UK. jady_lady on LJ reports that the UK's voting system for blind people is very poor, forcing them to rely on a sighted person to cast their votes, and not providing any way for the voter to check that their ballot is correct.
